6:12PM - Moving Week

So, this week has been very much full of moving. Ti and I have too much stuff between the two of us has been my conclusion. I packed Sunday, moved Monday night and Tuesday night, moved my apartmentmates last night (Wednesday night), get a break today, and am moving 1 ex-apartmentmate and myself into the dorms tomorrow morning. It's good that my muscles have a chance to relax though.

In other news, I set off the fire alarm while cooking fish sticks last night, and almost again this morning while making oatmeal. I'm definitely living up to my HILC award of "most likely to set off the fire alarm."

I doubt it'll happen, but I'd like to take pictures of this temporary apartment and the new dorm. This apartment has a huge living room, dining room, and bedrooms. It's for 3 people (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms), but it's quite big. I'm not complaining. It also has an in-sink disposal (sweet) and central air (not really needed anymore). Too bad I didn't live here all summer. It would've been nice. Eh.

I'll be on the 5th floor this coming semester. Should be nice. I'm told there's a freight elevator that I might be able to use to move stuff in. I sure hope so, 'cause a full fridge is a major bitch when it comes to moving or stairs. Excellent for cooking/eating though. ;)

We're trying to make up fall break plans. Who (that has an airport nearby and is south-ish) wants to host us? We're thinking of Atlanta or Raleigh/Durham to visit Swapna/Emory or Graham/Duke. We'll see.

Current mood: rejuvenated
Current music: the hum of refrigerators :D (=food)

4:00PM - Update?

So, my last real post was in December, so I guess I'm doing pretty badly with this. Regardless, I'm updating now, so be happy.

I'm trying to finish up this research project that I started at the beginning of last summer. I think I'll get the prep done this summer and spend a little time during the school year actually doing the experiments, probably on Sundays. Gah, I can't wait until this is over.

In other news, I'm still with Ti, in case you were wondering. Well, not physically, but you know. She's in Ireland on a sweet biomedical engineering reserach project this summer. Visiting her was awesome. We went to Galway, London, and of course Dublin, where she's working/living. And it is nice being able to buy wine to accompany dinner and to cook with.

I have 1 1/2 more weeks until I move out of my apartment, and then back into the dorms the next day. Then a week of PREPARE (int'l orientation), another week of research work, 2 days of classes, and Ti returns on the 26th. Shouldn't be too long I guess. I'm hoping the time will go by faster once I move out of my apartment. I just found out that my freshman sister-suitemate Kristina is going to be on my hall for the fall semester. That'll be funny. Additionally, Ti and Maria (Ti's suitemate for 2 years) will be in the room next-door, and Nikhil (fun HILCer from India) will be my roomate. Also, the RA was an RA in Ti's dorm (HILC) last year, so I know him.

7:12PM - End of semester

My last exam was Wednesday night, and it was sweet. I think I may be due for a 3.93 for the semester, which would give me a 3.49 cumulative GPA. Yay! I know it's not all about grades, but they're definitely important. It was a very interesting semester, too.

Off to Utah on Tuesday. Home next Sunday (25th). Can't wait to see certain people ;-)

4:44PM - Update?

Well, my first final is tonight: linear algebra. Should be good. I have 4 next week. Gah. Then I'm working on my research. I'll be here till the 20th. Then I'm flying to Utah to go skiing. I'll be home in Virginia from Dec 25 to Jan 4. I'll be in Michigan from the 4th to the 11th, at which point I'm back in Ithaca for a week and a half of research before classes start.

as seems to be the trend... movies watched )

Classes have been pretty sweet so far. I don't have any tomorrow, because my ChemE section/lab doesn't start till next week, so I'm at work/lab all day :) I'm getting excited about this research project.

1:42PM - <1 month!

so, it's been just under a month since my last update. I've been doing my research happily, and reading a lot (and falling asleep on it every so often). I mostly moved into my apartment last night (finally), but didn't finish, so I just spent the night at my old apartment again. For the new apartment, I'm in charge of Shabbos meals. Should be interesting.... Um... Dunno. Any questions?

Ah! I'm doing 2 websites, possibly another, at the moment. 1 is mine (redoing the pictures thing: http://banshee.livefire.org/pics2/ courtesies of amir sufyani mostly) and the other is for the CJL (center for jewish living). eh.

12:53PM - Belated...

A belated majorly happy birthday to the best gal that I know...
Happy 19th Birthday Ti!!
and of course, lest we forget (again, grr), happy 9 months (and 2 days, hehe).

side note: I'm home till tomorrow afternoon (being Wednesday), so anyone up for something tonight? (preferably not movies)

oh yeah, and I nearly forgot. Austin graduated college on Sunday, and he's getting married on Thursday night (Lag BaOmer), yay!

Current mood: hopeful, for Ti and Austin

9:46PM - Stolen from William...

Your brain: 80% interpersonal, 120% visual, 80% verbal, and 120% mathematical!
Congratulations on being 400% smart! Actually, on my test, everyone is. The above score breaks down what kind of thinking you most enjoy doing. A score above 100% means you use that kind of thinking more than average, and a score below 100% means you use it less. It says nothing about how good you are at any one, just how interested you are in each, relatively. A substantial difference in scores between two people means, conclusively, that they are different kinds of thinkers.

Matching Summary: Each of us has different tastes. Still, I offer the following advice, which I think is obvious:

  1. Don't date someone if your interpersonal percentages differ by more than 80%.
  2. Don't be friends with someone if your verbal percentages differ by more than 100%.
  3. Don't have sex with someone if their math percentage is over 200%.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

9:07AM - 2 more days

2 more days of serious classes. then friday is slope day, but it's also yom hashoah, holocaust rememberance day.

the workload is going crazy, partially because i'm behind, and partially because i'm getting bombed. i have a 5pg rough draft for english due last friday that i have to get done before the final paper, which is 6pgs due next wednesday, and a presentation on my topic in class today. then i have a computer science project due tomorrow, a math ps, a chem ps, 2 chem lab writeups, and a biomed group lab writeup all due friday. soon afterwards, i have 4 finals, thursday, friday, monday, tuesday.

i'm going to boston on wednesday the 18th with ariella, a senior from the center for jewish living, and chilling in boston until (and including) my brother's graduation on sunday the 22nd. i'm going home (vb-type) that night i think. the rest of my summer schedule is the same as before.

outside academics, life is quite good. lots of chillin' with my gal, and stocking up for the summer (using my 250ish leftover big red bucks). i'm up to 8 boxes of pasta, 1 box of rice, and 4 cans of tuna, hehehe. i also need to get crackers, deserts, chips, more rice and pasta ;-), more tuna, and when it gets closer to leaving time, eggs, bread, and ice cream :-D oh, and cereal of course. basically, i need to go one of these days and just see what interests me ;-)

well, 10:10 math class is coming up, so i'm gonna go finish reading stuff for my linguistics presentation, and see what ti's up to :-D catch y'all later...

7:20PM - Summer? Spring?

As seems to be the general trend, it's been a while since my last update. Specifically, it's been almost a month. I ended up getting a research job with one Dr. Scheraga, Chemistry, who was my Dad's advisor when he was here. The research is about how proteins fold once they are translated in the ribosomes (yay Biochem!), so should be interesting. He said I'm going to be getting my own project to work on, and get to go to the group meetings, and get to work in the future (meaning during the year and in future summers as well), and, on top of that, I get happy amounts of pay.

Passover starts a week from this coming Saturday night. Should be interesting. They were kashering all the meat stuff from the kitchen today outside, and the Rabbi wasn't happy 'cause of all the work, hehe. On another note, a lot of people weren't happy, 'cause that means they're not cooking/serving meat until Passover (with the exception of Shabbos), so dinners are milk/cheese-y. On another note (using the whole pad here...), Appel (the dining hall with kosher section near my dorm) is having it's normal stuff up until Passover (meaning today and tomorrow, 'cause it closes after Thursday dinner until Sunday breakfast), and which point it's closing for all of Passover. Mmm...

So, summer plans: getting a ride Ithaca -> Boston May 20th-ish, brother's graduation Sunday the 22nd, flying home that night, then leaving Wednesday for Muncy, NY for my brother's wedding, and taking a bus back to school for the whole summer and fall term. Hehe. So if you (home people) want to see me, start making plans now ;-)

4:23PM - don't you hate it when people put their entire posts in the titles instead of in the body?

yes, i am alive. and doing quite well too, thanks. i have a cs prelim tonight on all of Matlab (since we finished it last thursday, and started on Java on tuesday). should be fun. wow, i scare myself sometimes. but yeah, i'll be home sunday 5:30ish. i'll be here this shabbos, and it seems as if we'll have a semi-decent crowd regardless of spring break. eh, we'll see. next thursday night and friday is (are?) purim, and i'm thinking of either going to DC for it and spending shabbos there, (possibly bugging bob about housing), or going up just shabbos (after friday shacharis), or just staying with someone in norfolk for shabbos. i think my parents would be up for just about anything, so yay. eh, we'll see. hope to see some of you folks soonish. you other folks... ;-) oh yeah, and i'll miss you other folks from cornell (naturally).

erm, yeah... 20 credits *gulp* and I'm thinking of joining a theater group (or 2), have a girlfriend, do a bunch of Jewish stuff, do a bunch of stuff with the International house, do hw, eat, sleep, and talk on aim. I guess that's why LJ's kinda lacking in updates for me, hehe. I had a Linguistics paper due yesterday, the second class of the semester. WTF? eh... yes, it was only 2 pages, but still...

I got all my books from amazon.com in today. yipee.

on another note, it's the coldest weather out that i've ever been in before. at the moment, weather.yahoo.com says it's 3º with a high of 7 and low of -5 today. oh yeah, and did i mention the windchill is -12º? and there's snow all over the place (esp on the ground ;-) ).

well, off to either clean my room or print off, read, and write about my Linguistics 16-page article for tomorrow...

oh yeah, and btw, life is good...

10:25PM - Not quite a month since my last one...Happy New Year...Home for winter break (obviously)

Erm, yeah, that's basically the gist of it. Haven't been doing a whole lot since I've been home. Working at my Dad's office some. Shredding old stuff, and going to update some patient data (I think). New news: I'm going on Rabbi Adler's trip to New York (City) January 13th through 17th, and instead of coming home, I'm taking a bus from Port Authortiy back to Cornell. eh, I keep getting distracted, and it's now...12:30ish am, so I'm gonna quit before I get too far behind. 11:05AM - Tuesday!

Just a quickish update, since ice skating is in about an hour ;-) I have my last final this afternoon at 3, for intro the chem e. Should be good. Ti's last one is at noon for Biomaterials (fancy that). Raquel and Maria are done. Maria went home this morning (supposedly ;-) j/k, I'm pretty sure she did), and Raquel is sticking around till Thursday with Ti and me, although she refused to go ice skating with us *grumble* Kene (roomate)'s last exam is tomorrow. I still need to get a replacement key for my room (since I lost mine a month or so ago). So yeah, I'll be home Thursday around 11am (hopefully), and leaving again on Sunday until the next Saturday (25th) for Utah. Then I'll be home till the 18th (or so the current plans are).

Major shoutouts to my juniors-turned-seniors: Allison (w00t!), Mindy (w00t!), Jason (w00t!), Andrew (hugs... in a manly way of course ;-) sidenote: in the 1 varisty hockey game I've made it to, we beat Princeton 5-3. I'll teach you some of the cheers when I get home if you want, hehehe.) Speaking of which, we should do a Jew Crew thing after the 25th, maybe that night? I don't know what my flight schedule, but chances are I get in late and will be too tired to do anything. Eh. Later!

2:37PM - Gobble Gobble Gobble

Hehe, that goes with squirrels eating pizza:

:-d

so i was supposed to go home (as in ithaca to vb, hehe) wednesday night, 5:00 flight from ithaca to philly and then getting to norfolk around 9:45 (quarter of/to/till ten ;-) ), but because of the icky weather the plane from philly to ithaca that was supposed to return with me on it got majorly delayed and wasn't supposed to take off from ithaca until 8ish, getting to philly at 9ish for my connection at 9:00. of course being the day before thanksgiving the later connection (10:00) was disgustingly overbooked too, so i would have to spend the night in philly. instead i decided just to get a 6:00 flight to laguardia and then get home by 10am (instead of pm, hehe). so Ti (who accompanied me to the airport, yay), Maria, Ryan, and I trouped out to college town to get food for dinner (since the dining halls were closed for thanksgivingish), and got rice, vegetables, eggs, and strawberry cheese/shortcakes. i ended up talking to my sister during the entire walk (about 25 min), so that was good, hehe. for dinner we made the rice pilaf (with garlic added), the vegetables (broccoli, string beans, and a few mushrooms, also with garlic added), and scrambled eggs-with-clemintines (not with garlic, hehe). the eggs were a bit too funky but the others were really good. we ended up forgetting about the cheesecakes, but apparently they were good. 1 is being saved for me, or so i'm told, so that should be good. i'm back to playing piano (some... painfully, hehe), and Ti and I beat Ryan and Maria in Euchre (oh yeah... take 2, hehe), and I ended up getting about 2 hrs of sleep (after getting none the night before), and waking up at 4:30 for my taxi to the airport for my flights home.

woof.

but yeah, good stuff that was. i missed my family some, but it was fun being in ithaca for 1 extra night. i decided to have a shading of a shabbos this week. after shabbos dinner with the family i'm going over to mike's, and tomorrow we're driving down to b'nei israel (orthodox shul), and in the afternoon apparently i'm going through papers with mom. tomorrow night is ice skating. drop me a line (of some form) if you want to go, or just ask greg, since he's in charge, hehe. (scary thought, ain't it? ;-) ).

1 more week of classes, a few days of studying (skiing some?), a few exams, and then i'm back home on the 16th. less than 3 weeks. eh. schedule then: skiing the 19th-25th, and heading back to cornell the 18th. something is definitely happening new year's eve, but it's not being planned now ;-) but we'll see. (having ti come and visit maybe?) r addler's trip is right before i go back to cornell (ends on the 17th) so i may hop on that and just head back to cornell straight from New York, but we'll see. at any rate, a bientot (hopefully).
